The Basquiat show at the Barbican right now: the upstairs is good, the early stuff is great, but it kind of loses focus downstairs with the later stuff. Still there are plenty of gems down there (‘Young Picasso … Old Picasso’ is pretty chucklesome). The catalogue is a real late ‘70s throwback though, all gruesome typography and smeary ink on china-clay-shiny paper. Maybe that’s deliberate.
