Fakin’ Bacon: recreating Francis Bacon’s brushwork and effects in the Procreate app on iPad. The app’s brushes are maybe a little more fluid than Bacon’s mostly dry or turpsy marks, but it has a good go at getting the larger smears right. #francisbacon #painting #art #procreate #ipad #tate #london

Below, old glasses. Above, new glasses. Out of picture, other new glasses (for distance, appropriately enough). I could have put them in the picture too, but I decided I’d go for the whole Two Ronnies Opening Titles thing instead. Off now to complain about the Producer. #glasses #visionexpressareapaintodealwith #artist #eyes #tworonnies #comedy #penguinbooks #pelicanbooks

I can’t get enough of 1970s European TV graphics, and the current logo of the Nordisk Film & TV Fond (which I stumbled upon today) has more than a whiff of that terrible/wonderful era. Lovely stuff. #TVs #logo #1970s

Yes, I’d say that bit at the bottom saying ‘New titles may have been added since this was printed’ is probably pretty accurate. #penguinbooks #1938 #books

Penguins printed during World War II are fascinating, not just for their thinness and roughness (paper rationing) but also because of ads like this one for Mars Bars - restricted, it would seem, to children who Dig For Victory. Blimey! #penguin #penguinbooks #advertising #history #publishing #paper

Back in print production this week, using Ted Hughes’ neck as a book brace. I find he has one of the thicker, sturdier literary necks. Some say it was made of brass… #printmaking #poetry #tedhughes #literature #photography #penguinbooks

William S Burroughs would have been 101 today. Some may choose to remember his seminal writing (excuse me while I titter over my own terrible pun), but what about his Free Jazz Quintet, whose disastrous early-70s tour of Europe I commemorated in this poster (available as ever from standarddesigns.etsy.com). #williamsburroughs #burroughs #nakedlunch #beatgeneration #poster #writer #etsy

I bought this and one other Star Trek ‘fotonovel’ (uuurgh!) at our local secondhand bookshop today for 10p each. Spookily, I used to have both of them (and one other) when I was a kid. They’re a brilliantly silly idea - like having a VCR, but in book form. Why weren’t *all* TV programmes turned into 'fotonovels’ (uuuurgh again)? Imagine going to your local bookshop to buy last Wednesday’s 'Coronation Street’ in all its un-technicolor, speech-bubbled glory! #fotonovel #startrek #williamshatner #literature #coronationstreet

I found this in a secondhand Penguin I bought recently - the paper ephemera collector in me got all in a tizzy when it plopped onto the desk before me. PopMusicTruFact: on 28 July 1977 Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’ was at No. 1 in the UK singles chart. There’s a Giorgio Moroder connection to most things… #penguinbooks #penguin #ephemera #collecting #writer #donnasummer #disco #1977 #giorgiomoroder

Doodling on the iPad Mini this afternoon. I can’t tell whether this chap’s having a good day or a bad one. Maybe good. Yes, let’s go with good.

So here we see a typical Author having a good day.

So, drawings made in Adobe Sketch on an iPad Mini fare pretty well when blown up to A3 and beyond, this test print I got back today demonstrates. This is a good thing, because it means that my hours spent doodling aren’t simply *doodling* per se but Preparatory Drawings Towards A Series Of Major Works. Oh yes they are. #drawing #printmaking #fineart #adobe #adobesketch #ipad #ipadmini #artist #etsy
