This bright dot is Jupiter, as seen through the lens of our eldest son’s Science-o-tron Astronomatic telescope early yesterday morning. Photographed with an iPhone, which wasn’t in Galileo’s kitbag as far as I remember, the 4G signal being pretty dire in Pisa back in the early 17th century. #astronomy #jupiter #galileo

A run-of-the-mill late-1960s Pelican, but the chopped-up/screwed up lettering at the top of the back cover is quite fun. The blue, white and black work so efficiently together. And efficiency is sufficiency, isn’t it. And rhyming is timing. Oh and two new prints will be available tomorrow.

I thought I’d lost this. Now it’s Tintin Timetime again. Number One Son will be inheriting it as soon as it has a new battery. I’d be tempted to wear it myself, but my current Ticka-Ticka-Timex-Tra-La-La is as uncluttered as any watch could be, and brevity is the soul of longevity, isn’t it. #Tintin #watch #herge #design #timex #simplicity

My back cover art for The Anchoress’ debut album ‘Confessions Of A Romance Novelist’ in situ. I thoroughly recommend buying a physical copy of this wonderful album - booklovers especially are in for a treat where the inner packaging (and, let’s face it, everything else) is concerned. Total attention to detail. Well done all round, @catherineannedavies ! #theanchoress #album #newmusic #penguinbooks #reading #literature

Sent two-and-a-half prints off to the printer for proofing today. Here’s one under the microscope. I love grey like the arch-minimalist I am, or *think* I am. #printmaking #art #penguinbooks #literature #reading

More left-wing Penguins now. This one’s pretty formulaic, but I like the subtitle ‘Problems, Diagnosis, Action’ - it reminds me of Reeves & Mortimer’s performance artist characters 'Action Image Exchange’. #penguinbooks #penguin #paperback #vicreeves #reevesandmortimer #bignightout

Bought a set of 1970s Penguins with left-leaning subject matter - lots of red used in the cover designs of course. I’m guessing Citizen Smith must have dumped his library on the local secondhand book shop recently #freedomfortooting #penguinbooks #1970s #socialism #economics #design #bookcover

Drawing tonight using a Wacom Intuos Creative Stylus and a range of Adobe apps on my iPad Mini (that’s enough branding soup for one sentence). I’ve no idea what this is - a playing card crossed with a Mayan ruler drawn some time in the early 1950s perhaps, or Willem de Kooning’s obsession with Mickey Dolenz. #drawing

The Sweet, 1974. Are these the men your mother warned you about? Or just the clothes? (From the inside front cover of the Look-in ‘How’ annual).

It gets better on the HOW annual - this is the back cover! I particularly like Mr Dineage’s ensemble/look/vibe, but at the same time… hmmmmm. It gets worse inside though. #1970s #fashion #tvpresenters #photo #book

A Look-in HOW annual from 1974. Having been both an avid Look-in reader *and* HOW viewer in the 1970s I was thrilled to find this while book-shopping at the weekend. “Based on the Southern Television series” tells you everything you need to know about how much smaller and closer to home things were back then. Even big things like networked television.

A Peacock Book (published by Penguin) from 1965, bought at our local country park secondhand bookshop yesterday. A strange combination of high contrast photo and gentle colour tones. Or maybe this copy just sat out in the sun too long one late-sixties summer?
